Every time I revisit John Boorman’s Excalibur I enjoy it a bit more. And since I thought it was pretty awesome to begin with, I can’t think of a better indicator that I should probably write a “my favorite movies” post about it!

This is another entry in my fairy tale series. Each entry attempts to analyze one archetypical element of myths legends and fairy tales in a short introductory essay followed by an original fairy tale utilizing some of the elements that have just been discussed. As a follow up to the beer blog I had an “India Pale Ale taste test” at my place last night. Six IPA’s, three taste testers (my NYC friends Ian and Jessica joined me), a surprise disqualification, a lip balm fiasco and whacky shenanigans ensued. I would write my usual 6 page essay about it, but Jessica LIVE-blogged about it from my living room herself! So read all about it HERE.

I’ve always weight lifted (aside from that small 5 year break that I had taken up till this last summer). Power lifting (bench, squat and deadlift) has usually been my thing, but as of a week ago I’ve started training with some “Olympic style weightlifters” here in Lawrence (after attempting to teach myself for the last two months). I thought I’d take some time to explain just what Olympic weightlifting is and why I’ve decided to start doing it myself.
